Watch as nationally known DJ Araabmuzik, who has toured with such bands as Skrillex, brainstorms a music composition that will serve as the baseline for the new Under Armour spot featuring Carolina Panthers’ QB, Cam Newton. DJ Araabmuzik was set up next to music producer, Brett Belcastro (aka DJ 2nd Nature) in our audio suite. Producers’ audio mixer, Mike Brilhart, had his soundboard tapped into the DJ’s drum machine to record some of the initial bass lines and then later into a Yamaha keyboard as Araabmuzik threw in some melody. Brilhart was also feeding Belcastro some different effects that played along and he was dropping them in on the fly to try them out.
This is an unreleased original version of The What by Biggie featuring Method Man. The opening is completely different and part of B.I.G.’s later verse is different. You might recognize the first part of the opening as part of Biggie’s freestyle “The Wickedest” with Mr. Cee, but there is one word changed (“take” changed to “grab”). I haven’t heard any of the rest of B.I.G.’s lines in any other songs, but if anyone else has, I’d like to hear about it.
This song was taken from the O.G. Edition of Ready to Die dropped by The Mixtape Marvel.
